It’s main attraction- Cartagena is what has been luring in visitors from all over the world. This UNESCO world heritage site has lots of history, colonial architecture, plazas, churches, markets, and shops you would want to explore for days. “La Cuidad Amurallada” is the only walled city in the Americas that was built to protect the town from its enemies hundreds of years ago. Cartagena is one of the most interesting colonial cities in the Western Hemisphere. If you are thinking of visiting the charming and historical Cartagena de Indias, don’t wait any longer; pack your bags and go!

Con el turismo de Colombia en su punto más alto, no pasó mucho tiempo antes de que decidiera que era el momento de explorarlo yo misma. The PROPERTY
We spent our stay in a beautiful and luxurious hotel filled with history, Hotel Charleston Santa Teresa- part of the Leading Hotels of the World Group. We were very warmly welcomed to the hotel as soon as we arrived yet couldn’t keep our eyes off of the physical beauty of the hotel. Our jaws dropped as we admired the main foyer of the hotel. The foyer is home to Harry’s Bar and is draped with the freshest ivy decorating the main courtyard of the hotel. From the main entrance your eyes are met with the antique spiral staircase at the far end of the foyer that goes all the way to the fifth floor. In awe we walked around the first floor and immediately fell in love with the hotels sophisticated and old world romantic charm.

Pasamos nuestra estancia en un hermoso y lujoso hotel lleno de historia, el Hotel Charleston Santa Teresa, parte del Leading Hotels of the World Group. Fuimos recibidas muy calurosamente en el hotel tan pronto como llegamos, pero no pudimos apartar la vista de la belleza física del hotel. Nos quedamos con las bocas abierta al admirar el vestíbulo principal del hotel. El vestíbulo es el hogar del Harry's Bar y está cubierto con la hiedra más fresca que decora el patio principal del hotel. Desde la entrada principal, sus ojos se encuentran con la escalera de caracol antigua en el extremo del vestíbulo que va hasta el quinto piso. Asombradas, caminamos por el primer piso e inmediatamente nos enamoramos del sofisticado y antiguo encanto romántico del hotel.
Charleston Santa Teresa is filled with world class cultural heritage as the hotel is a magnificently restored 17th century convent. The hotel is divided into two wings, a Republican wing that was built on the 20th century and a Colonial wing that dates back to the 17th century.

The colonial wing houses 20-foot ceiling and very spacious suites that are just gorgeous. Restored by artisans, this hotel offers a unique sophistication to details, including the custom furniture, and painted walls throughout the property. The grand old warm interiors and public spaces conjure an earlier era of Cartagena. The hotel has 73 rooms and 14 suites which faces the ocean or the ancient colonial colorful walled city of Cartagena.

This intimate 5 star hotel is located in the heart of Cartagena. Walking distance to all of the “happenings”; the hotel is perfectly situated near the historic Teatro Adolfo Mejia, luxury shopping and a scenic walk along the historic wall. It is also less than a 30 minute drive from the Rafael Núñez International Airport. This is a perfect location to relax and enjoy your vacation away from the beachfront crowds of the modern Boca Grande neighborhood. Truly, a dream destination for us.
Este íntimo hotel de 5 estrellas se encuentra en el corazón de Cartagena. A poca distancia de todos los "happenings"; el hotel está perfectamente ubicado cerca del histórico Teatro Adolfo Mejía, tiendas de lujo y un pintoresco paseo a lo largo de la muralla histórica. También se encuentra a menos de 30 minutos en coche del Aeropuerto Internacional Rafael Núñez. Este es un lugar perfecto para relajarse y disfrutar de sus vacaciones lejos de las multitudes frente a la playa del moderno barrio de Boca Grande. Verdaderamente, un destino de ensueño para nosotras.
OUR ROOM
Our room was painted in a soothing cerulean blue/purple fresco giving it the impression of watercolors. The beds had luxurious linens and were extra fluffy and comfortable. The marble bathroom had large sinks and mirrors, rain shower and a luxurious whirlpool tub. Our room had two nice sized closets, a table with a complimentary beautiful and generous fruit plate, cable TV, an iPad, and turndown services everyday with delicious chocolate truffles and handmade Colombian candies.
NUESTRA HABITACIÓN
Nuestra habitación estaba pintada con un fresco azul cerúleo / morado que daba la impresión de acuarelas. Las camas tenían lujosas sábanas y eran extra esponjosas y cómodas. El baño de mármol tenía grandes lavamanos y espejos, ducha de lluvia y una lujosa bañera de hidromasaje. Nuestra habitación tenía dos armarios de buen tamaño, una mesa con un plato de fruta hermosa y generosa de cortesía, televisión con cable, un iPad y servicios de cobertura todos los días con deliciosas trufas de chocolate y caramelos Colombianos hechos a mano.
DINING
We were told by many locals, that the Hotel Charleston Santa Teresa has one of the best buffet breakfast in all of Cartagena. Their delicious arepas are prepared by demand. They offer unlimited baskets of fresh tropical fruits that make your mouth water, eggs, baked goods and many other Traditional Colombian foods. Our breakfast was always fresh and delicious. We always had the most attentive staff ready to serve us Colombian coffee and exotic teas. We usually enjoyed our breakfast on their rooftop by the pool which offered beautiful views of the city. There is also an on-site restaurant by world acclaimed Colombian chef- Harry Sasson. Though we didn’t get a chance to actually sit in the restaurant and enjoy our meal considering the fact that we came late from exploring, we would order food service. The food was really flavorful and tasty, literally good enough to lick the plate.
COMIDA
Muchas gente locales nos dijeron que el Hotel Charleston Santa Teresa tiene uno de los mejores bufés de Cartagena. Sus deliciosas arepas están preparadas por demanda. Ofrecen cestas ilimitadas de frutas tropicales frescas que hacen que la boca se haga agua, huevos, productos horneados y muchas otras comidas tradicionales Colombianas. Nuestro desayuno siempre fue fresco y delicioso. Siempre tuvimos el personal más atento listo para servirnos café Colombiano y tés exóticos. Por lo general, disfrutamos de nuestro desayuno en la azotea junto a la piscina, que ofrece hermosas vistas de la ciudad. También hay un restaurante en el sitio por el mundialmente aclamado Chef Colombiano Harry Sasson. Aunque no tuvimos la oportunidad de realmente sentarnos en el restaurante y disfrutar de nuestra comida teniendo en cuenta el hecho de que llegamos tarde de la exploración, pediríamos servicio de comida. La comida era realmente sabrosa y literalmente lo suficientemente buena como para lamber el plato.
THE STAFF
As soon as arriving to the hotel we were greeted as if we were royalty. The staff was extremely welcoming and accommodating. We were quickly asked for drink requests, one offering being the hotel’s signature coconut lemonade. Trust me, you would not want to leave this hotel! Truly the friendliest staff, willing to help us with all of our questions and give us suggestions to explore the town and more. There is also a tourism desk which helps you plan excursions such as those to the Rosario Islands. You won’t want to miss going out and exploring the beautiful beaches and secluded islands off the coast of Cartagena.
EL PERSONAL
Tan pronto como llegamos al hotel nos recibieron como si fuéramos realeza. El personal fue extremadamente amable y servicial. Nos pidieron rápidamente las solicitudes de bebidas, una de las cuales era la limonada de coco del hotel. Confía en mí, ¡no querrás irte de este hotel! Verdaderamente el personal más amable, dispuesto a ayudarnos con todas nuestras preguntas y darnos sugerencias para explorar la ciudad y más. También hay un mostrador de turismo que le ayuda a planificar excursiones como las de las Islas del Rosario. No querrá perderse la oportunidad de salir y explorar las hermosas playas y las aisladas islas de la costa de Cartagena.
THE ROOFTOP, POOL and BAR
Cartagena is a very hot city as it is in the Caribbean coast of Colombia.To beat the heat, we would spend the scorching hours of the afternoon lounging at their rooftop pool and wandering the courtyard with cold wine on hand. Even if you are the kind of person who finds it hard to get into a relaxing gear, which I clearly am not, this place will have you dialed down to chill almost instantly.
LA AZOTEA, PISCINA Y BARRA
Cartagena es una ciudad muy cálida, como lo es en la costa caribeña de Colombia. Para combatir el calor, pasaríamos las horas abrasadoras de la tarde descansando en la piscina de la azotea y deambulando por el patio con vino frío a mano. Incluso si eres el tipo de persona a la que le cuesta trabajo relajarte, cosa que claramente no hago, este lugar hará que te marquen para que te relajes casi al instante.
The rooftop swimming pool and terrace bar offer unrivalled views of the whole city. With the prettiest views of the “cuidad amuralla” with its colonial and colorful buildings as well as views of the modern Boca Grande with new and modern glass buildings. The beautiful cabanas were beautiful and comfortable as well as a good hideaway spot from the sun. We were able to relax with a glass of sparkling rosé, as we read our books quietly. We defintely took advantage of the huge pool considering that most times we were there it was completely empty, feeling as if we had our own private pool with a whole staff to our disposal.
La piscina de la azotea y el bar con terraza ofrecen vistas inigualables de toda la ciudad. Con las vistas más bonitas de "cuidad amuralla" con sus edificios coloniales y coloridos, así como vistas de la moderna Boca Grande con edificios de vidrio nuevos y modernos. Las hermosas cabañas eran hermosas y cómodas, así como un buen escondite del sol. Pudimos relajarnos con un vaso de rosado brillante mientras leíamos nuestros libros. Definitivamente aprovechamos la enorme piscina teniendo en cuenta que la mayoría de las veces que estuvimos allí estaba completamente vacía, con la sensación de tener nuestra propia piscina privada con todo el personal a nuestra disposición.
SPA and GYM
Just when you thought this hotel couldn’t get any better, you are asked to enjoy their excellent, luxury spa that offers specialized treatments which combine thousand year old eastern therapies, philosophies and traditions unique to the hotel. You can also enjoy a complimentary Turkish bath or reserve the hydrotherapy massage pool or private bath, where you are able to enjoy the beautiful ocean views. You also have the option to purify your body with the infusions of tropical fruit and traditional Caribbean herbs. The design of the spa is very sophisticated, decorated in white and black to encourage relaxation and harmony throughout the space. For those of you who still work on their fitness goals while on vacation, there is a great gym you could attend equipped with all your needs.

Justo cuando creía que este hotel no podía mejorar, se le pide que disfrute de su excelente spa de lujo que ofrece tratamientos especializados que combinan las milenarias terapias orientales, filosofías y tradiciones únicas del hotel. También puede disfrutar de un baño turco gratuito o reservar la piscina de hidroterapia o el baño privado, donde podrá disfrutar de las hermosas vistas del océano. También tiene la opción de purificar su cuerpo con las infusiones de frutas tropicales y hierbas caribeñas tradicionales. El diseño del spa es muy sofisticado, decorado en blanco y negro para fomentar la relajación y la armonía en todo el espacio. Para aquellos de ustedes que todavía trabajan en sus objetivos de acondicionamiento físico durante sus vacaciones, hay un gran gimnasio al que pueden asistir equipados con todas sus necesidades.
OTHER AMENITIES
We took advantage of their complimentary bike rental and used them to ride around town. It was a great experience, not to mention a very cute photo op. The bikes are blue which are a great contrast against the colorful walls of Cartagena. Other features of the hotel include wi-fi, local newspaper, business center, babysitting service, transportation service, yacht and boat rentals, city tours, rosario island tours, meetings & events.
OTRAS AMENIDADES
Aprovechamos su alquiler gratuito de bicicletas y las utilizamos para pasear por la ciudad. Fue una gran experiencia, sin mencionar una foto muy linda. Las bicicletas son azules, que son un gran contraste contra las coloridas paredes de Cartagena. Otras características del hotel incluyen wi-fi, periódico local, centro de negocios, servicio de canguro, servicio de transporte, alquiler de yates y embarcaciones, tours por la ciudad, tours por la Isla Rosario, reuniones y eventos.
It’s very rare that we leave a location and vow to be back instantly. But, we are already looking at tickets to return to Cartagena and other cities in Colombia. We must say, although Hotel Charleston Santa Teresa itself was exquisite, it truly was the staff who went above and beyond to take care of us that made our stay so memorable. Hotel Charleston Santa Teresa is the perfect romantic getaway for lovebirds, honeymooners and families.
Es muy raro que abandonemos una ubicación y prometemos regresar al instante. Pero, ya estamos buscando boletos para regresar a Cartagena y otras ciudades en Colombia. Debemos decir que, aunque el Hotel Charleston Santa Teresa en sí fue exquisito, verdaderamente fue el personal que hizo todo lo posible para cuidarnos lo que hizo que nuestra estancia fuera tan memorable. El Hotel Charleston Santa Teresa es la escapada romántica perfecta para enamorados, recién casados familias.
